Those signed up to Pinterest are receiving more referral traffic than through Yahoo organic search

How to use Pinterest

Lorelei Gibb from Dolphin Computers tells you everything you need to know about using Pinterest for your business.

Have you heard all the buzz about Pinterest? Are you quietly groaning, thinking oh no, not another social networking site? Perhaps you’ve heard it’s really only for stay-at-home mums to post pictures of homemade cup cakes on?

Maybe you need to think again.

Those who have signed up to Pinterest are receiving more referral traffic to their websites than though Yahoo organic search. They are also getting more traffic through than from Bing and from Twitter.

If you go and visit Pinterest, at first glance it may not look like the type of site for someone in the PC retail industry – the cover page is littered with home design and cooking. But you will also see, in the top left hand corner, a search box. Try typing in ‘laptop’, ‘tablet’, ‘printer’ or whatever else you might sell and have a look at what comes up.

A fully optimised Pinterest page could help your ongoing search engine optimisation campaign. There are things you need to be aware of, for example the ‘rules’ of use and the legalities of what you can and cannot share, but these are all available on the site.

Is Pinterest just another fad? Who knows – but what is definite is that the web is becoming more visual. Want better click-through rates on your Facebook business page listings? Add an image. Want to get your blog post shared more? Add visuals.

Any marketing efforts you embark on should be complemented by an online campaign – it could be that Pinterest is your missing link.
