NCsoft's immensely-popular MMO dominates European games charts

Guild Wars 2 tops charts

Following its release last month, NCsoft’s hugely anticipated MMO Guild Wars 2 has smashed expectations by topping official charts across Europe.

Having been released for just ten days, the title now holds the number one spot in the official All Formats chart across Europe, including the UK, Germany, France, Spain, Denmark, Sweden Norway, Finland, Belgium and the Netherlands.

Speaking of the game’s success, Mike O’Brien, president and co-founder of ArenaNet said: "Our games have always been well-received in Europe, but this level of enthusiasm is both awesome and humbling."

“It also impresses upon us the responsibility we have to our players and explains why we’ve taken steps recently to constrain sales of Guild Wars 2 to ensure the highest quality of service. Of course, we hope to remedy this in the near future," he continued.

As the latest title in the MMO genre, Guild Wars 2 takes players to the world of Tyria and provides them with a massive role playing environment, filled with intense battles and epic quest lines. Guild Wars 2 differs from its rivals by maintaining a free-to-play pricing model, that eliminates the monthly subscription fee common amongst most MMO titles.

With Guild Wars 2’s biggest rival – World of Warcraft – releasing its upcoming Mists of Pandaria expansion on September 25th, it will be interesting to see if Guild Wars 2 can maintain its success and retain the top spot of the charts.
