Google has set out plans to add pictures of the insides of retailers and businesses to the firm's Maps and Streetview services on desktop and portable devices.
An extension of the Street View service, Google is giving the chance for businesses in select cities to apply for the pilot program which will allow potential customers spin around 360 views of the inside of shops.
"Just as you can't judge a book by its cover, you can't always judge a business by its exterior. Interior photographs and panoramic imagery are a great way to show potential customers what your business is really like," Google said on the Business Photos FAQ.
Available in several cities in the US, Australia and New Zealand and the UK capital London, if Google approves the application then "Google trusted photographers" will be dispatched to take photos.
Google said that the company is targeting businesses which are most often sought after via search including: restaurants, hotels, retail shops, gyms, salons, repair shops and a variety of other storefront businesses.
Business owners cal also upload different photos of their own via Google Places and request the removal of specific photos taken by Google trusted photographers.
Some examples including Gruhn Guitars in Nashville Tennessee can be seen on the Business Photos web site.
