Google announced that public transport directions are now available for London within Google Maps.
The British capital is now covered with extensive route planning via Transport for London, including 18,000 bus stops and over 250 London Underground stations.
"Let’s say you’re at Trafalgar Square, and you want to visit Madame Tussauds. With a simple directions search, you’ll see all the possible public transport connections," blogged Google transit directions manager Thijs Van As.
"In Maps, click 'Get directions' in the left-hand panel, and then the train icon to see public transport directions," explained Van As.
Users of the Android Google Maps application can use the Transit Navigation feature which not only provides the directions but also signals the user with alerts when it's time to get off or change.
Google hailed Transport for London as one of the first transport organisations in Europe to make timetable information publicly available.
Google Maps now has Underground, bus, tram and DLR lines with the internet giant promising to add more as it becomes available.
Google also recently updated Google Maps' coverage of London to include 3D buildings.
