Google has initiated an advertising campaign in the face of mounting rivalry with Microsoft in the office applications software segment.
According to Tech Crunch, the drive, which is entitled ‘Going Google,’ takes the form of a billboard and viral ad strategy and it’s obvious that it is aimed at Office users in the business sector before Office goes online in 2010.
The key thrust of the drive is the reasons why around 3000 companies sign up to Google Apps every day. These testimonies will appear on Twitter and a specialist website created to help spread the word. Google is also giving away prizes throughout August to users who have embraced Google Apps and who submit a written entry describing their experience.
This latest move follows weeks of tit-for-tat announcements from the two companies, who seem to be preparing for a confrontation.
After Google revealed its forthcoming Chrome operating system, Microsoft announced that, like Google Apps, its latest version of Office would have cloud support. This was closely followed by revelations of an alliance with Yahoo to challenge Google in the search sphere.
