With Google’s annual developer conference kicking off today, we take a look at where you can watch it and what announcements to expect.
Taking place on June 25th – 26th at Moscone West Convention Center in San Francisco, a live stream of the keynote, which starts at 9am PT (5pm BST), will be available here.
Here’s a rundown of the most popular rumoured announcements expected at Google IO 2014:
Nexus tablets
It’s thought that Google could unveil a new Nexus tablet. One rumour is that there will be a Nexus 8, with an 8.9-inch screen. Some reports have said the device has been codenamed either ‘Flounder’ or ‘Volantis’ and is being manufactured by HTC. It is expected to have an aluminium body and a Tegra K1 processor.
Android 5.0 Lollipop
Sundar Pichai has confirmed that the next Android release will be unveiled at this year’s event. ‘Lollipop’ seems to be the most popular rumoured name for the next version of the mobile operating system.
Android TV
It is thought that Google will try to follow the success of its Chromecast TV streaming dongle with the revival of Android TV. It is expected that an Android TV-powered set-top will be on show at Google IO.
Google Glass for consumers
While the general public can get hands on Google Glass, including those in the UK, it’s still only the Explorer Edition – which will set you back £1,000. We could finally hear details about a consumer version making its way to retail.
Android Wear
It’s likely that Google Glass won’t be the only wearable technology detailed at the event. CCS Insight believes we could see the launch of the first devices with partners such as Motorola and LG.
Google Fit
It is reported that the firm is gearing up to launch a new health service called Google Fit. The service is allegedly designed to aggregate data from health-related apps and popular fitness trackers.
Self-driving cars
Following the news last month that Google is set to produce its own fleet of driverless cars, it’s incredibly likely that the project will get some coverage at the event.
