Google gains on Microsoft

Google gains on Microsoft
The Businessweek/Interbrand annual ranking of the best 100 global brands has been released, revealing Google as the biggest climber with its brand being 44 per cent 'better' than in 2006.

Although Coca Cola tops the list again, technology companies dominate the list with Microsoft second, IBM third, Nokia fifth and Intel 7th. HP is a healthy 12th, while Dell has slipped to 31st, just ahead of Apple at 33.

But the big winner is Google, which now sits at number 20, ahead of technology giants like Samsung (21) and Sony (25). Google's continuing diversification from its core search engine business appears to be paying dividends.
