A court in France has ordered Google to pay 5,000 euros to a man who it found had his reputation damaged by Google's search suggestion results.
The case relates to the suggested terms that appear when a user of the Internet giant's search engine types terms into the search box. Apparently typing the man's name featured suggestions as helpful as prison, rapist and rape.
The suggestions are automatically generated by Google based on popular searches which begin with the same terms. The French court ordered Google to remove the suggestions and pay damages without a finding that found the material illegal.
Google said that it would appeal the decision. The man involved had previously been found guilty and sentence on charges of corrupting a minor.
