Google defends book deal

Google defends book deal

Google has addressed criticisms made by Microsoft over the digital distribution deal that will grant it the rights to books that are out of print but still under copyright.

According to Reuters, Google has argued that the move is fair as it would enable other companies to enter the online book trade, and that the deal is “fully compliant with copyright law.”

“We believe anyone who wants to re-use abandoned works should have a fair, legal way to do so. In our view, the settlement helps,” said Google’s chief legal officer David Drummond.

The deal will enter final discussions in a Manhattan federal court on October 7th.
