According to measurement firm StatCounter, Google Chrome now has the largest web browser marketshare worldwide, narrowly beating rival Internet Explorer, though it still has some (virtual) ground to cover in the UK.
Chrome grabbed 32.76 per cent of the market, while Internet Explorer was a little lower at 31.94 per cent.
Looking back to May 2011, and the browser battle looked very different. Chrome was still catching up to FireFox with a mere 19.37 per cent share, while IE reigned with 43.95 per cent.
However, Chrome still has some way to go in the UK market, where IE continues to have significantly more marketshare. Chrome currently holds 28.95 of the audience, whilst IE has a more impressive 36.81 per cent. Nevertheless, as in the case of the worldwide data, it’s clear the market can seriously shift over the course of a few months and it will be interesting to see where Google stands this time next year.
For those interested in Mozilla’s fortunes, it is at 19.79 per cent in the UK and 25.47 worldwide.
