Google has been steadily updating the developer version of its Chrome browser to run Chrome OS in Windows 8.
When launched in Windows 8’s Metro mode the developer version of the browser now displays a UI identical to Chrome OS, with Chrome, Gmail, Google, Docs and YouTube icons along a shelf at the bottom of the screen.
As with Chrome OS, several windows can be opened and snapped to the edges of the screen.
The standard version of Chrome in Metro instead launches a fullscreen version of the browser.
The mode still contains a few bugs, and isn’t compatible with Windows RT, on which Chrome isn’t available.
The browser’s transformation follows Google’s expansion of Chrome Web Apps with Chrome Apps, which run outside of the browser and are said to be as fast and powerful as standard desktop programs.
