Google has asked businesses to hold back on using the internet giant's newly launched Google+ social networking platform to promote their brands and services.
Christian Oestlien, Google's adverting boss for Google+, posted on the Google+ service: "frankly we know our product as it stands is not optimally suited to [business] needs," highlighting the absurdity of asking Ford for a gender on the firm's Google+ profile.
"The business experience we are creating should far exceed the consumer profile in terms of its usefulness to businesses. We just ask for your patience while we build it," said Oestlien.
Oestlien said that Google as "discouraging" business from using the current personal profiles and that it was working with businesses to close any that have already been made.
Currently Google+ doesn't have the same sort of non-individual web pages as arch-rival Facebook but Google said that the firm would be experimenting with a small set of companies to gauge the effect of business brands within the new social networking service.
Oestlien asked businesses interested in participating in trial to visit a webpage providing an application form for a 'Google+ Entity Profile.'
