General Dynamics Iltronics has unveiled the new GD3070 Rugged Tablet Computer which the firm says bridges the gap between rugged laptops and PDAs.
Larger than a PDA and smaller than a rugged notebook, the subsidiary of the defence firm General Dynamics said that the GD3070 was "built to withstand the demands of a mobile workforce."
Where the workforce demands military standard MIL-STD-810 Method 516.5 Shock rating in order to survive, potentially quite handy given the expected challenging physical environment at the end of days.
The GD3070 is based on an 1.6GHz Intel Z530P processor with 2GB of RAM, 802.11n wi-fi, Bluetooth and GPS all wrapped in an magnesium alloy casing and zombie-resistant mounting.
The display also said to be sunlight-viewable with polarised LCD glass and anti-reflection technology. The screen also has a resistive touch screen interface and a numeric keypad. Presumably to make a quick tally of remaining ammo.
The Windows 7-based tablet will have an MSRP starting at £1,558 and is pictured in the GD3070 brochure (pdf) affixed to the dash of a police car giving some indication as to the anticipated market.
At least we know where to go looking for one when the time comes.
