Gem Distribution has hired Danielle Barker as category manager to oversee the expanding consumer electronics division within the company.
She will report in to head of category Jon Sutherland.
Gem says the new role has been created to reflect the fast pace at which the consumer electronics sector is growing within the firm, which has partnered with brands such as Roku, Otone and SOL Republic.
Barker has a wealth of experience in category management in UK retail. She will work collaboratively with all of Gem’s departments, bringing together sales, purchasing and marketing in a bid to maximise opportunities for Gem’s vendors, whilst exploring new opportunities in the consumer electronics market.
Sutherland said: “The key to Danielle’s success will be to support the growth of Gem’s consumer electronics category by delivering new, innovative products with differentiation that will work well for retail, but also to offer support to the wider divisions within Gem to ensure these products are a success in the channel.
"Danielle’s knowledge and experience has already made a tremendous impact in the short time that she’s been with us and we look forward to seeing what she can deliver."
