Distributor Gem has said a recent deal with Paramount Pictures, which will see the distributor shipping Star Trek and Transformers: Revenge of the fallen movies on USB sticks, will provide a shot in the arm to digital content sales, as it looks to expand further into the sector.
The movies, which cost £19.99, can be watched on desktops, laptops, the PS3 and some Blu-ray players. The distributor believes the deal will spark the development of a new product area for retailers to take advantage of.
“The Star Trek and Transformers collector movies on USB will create a new category for digital content for e-tail and retail,” said Neil Handa, Gem Creative’s head of marketing. “These products create additional value when compared to simply downloading the digital movie. In addition, Gem worked closely with Paramount to design the packaging via our Gem Creative team and we are looking forward to building on this concept in future.”
