Warns that the current downturn could last four years, but that innovation will drive upswing

Gates: Tech to lead growth

Bill Gates has predicted that it could take as many as four years for the economy to recover, but said that technology and science would play a key part in it.

Speaking at the World Economic Forum at Davos, Gates said that while the global economic system has taken a battering, once it had recovered it would lead to substantial advances in software, as well as medicine and genetics.

These developments would in turn lead to new growth, insisted Gates.
