Fujitsu has confirmed that it will cut 1,200 jobs at its corporate headquarters, with sales, marketing and accountancy staff at most risk.
The company began signalling that it was considering the cuts back in May this year, when it said it was evaluating pay and pensions.
The move has been attacked by union Unite, which said that the cuts are 'wholly unwarranted', especially following the company's recent profit of £200m.
It added that the recent decision to pay £1.59m to two former directors for the loss of their positions made the news worse.
"These proposed redundancies amounting to 10 per cent of its UK workforce are wholly unwarranted given the company made £200m in profit last year," said Peter Skyte, Unite national officer for IT and communications.
