An hour of free wireless internet access at 12 London stations this year with a further 44 to follow.

Free WiFi for London Overground

56 above ground train stations in London are set to receive free WiFi but not before the Olympics, with just 12 due to be switched on by the end of the year.

Rather more useful than the free WiFi in London Underground stations (but not on the actual trains), the hotspots operated by The Cloud will provide an hour of free access a day and pay-as-you-go before that.

"People’s expectation is to be able to work and communicate effectively and seamlessly while they’re on the move so we’re delighted to support this initiative which will bring reliable, free WiFi to London Overground’s customers,” said London Overground MD Steve Murphy.

The London Overground stations are those that serve local train networks rather than the big intercity stations such as Paddington, Victoria and Kings X. Some of the stations lined up for free wireless including Shepherd’s Bush, Kensington Olympia, West Croydon and Willesden Junction.
