Foxconn to take over Dell?s EU manufacturing

Dell is to transfer ownership of its European fabrication plant over to Foxconn, less than a year after closing its Irish operation and moving it to Poland.

Dell claims that the move will strengthen its long-term position in Europe and improve the efficiency of its global operations.

Following the transfer of ownership, Dell will operate as a customer of Foxconn and will continue to source laptops and desktops from the Lodz based plant. The vendor has also reassured its employees at the facility that they will continue in their roles once Foxconn takes over, and has stressed that the announcement does not affect its sales and marketing office in Warsaw.

“Extending our relationship with Foxconn allows us to help customers grow and succeed by making the most of their IT investments, in a way they’ve come to expect from Dell,” commented Dell’s vice president of supply-chain operations, Sean Corkery.

“We’re pleased that Foxconn recognizes the knowledge and skills of the Dell Lodz employees and will continue to rely on them to fulfil customer requirements and grow the operation.”

For Foxconn the deal represents its first physical presence in Europe. The manufacturer appears to be on a drive to increase its global presence, after plans to open 10,000 retail stores in China were made public.
