Foxconn poisons 250 Indian workers

Foxconn has inadvertently poisoned 250 Indian workers following a pesticide spray at a plant in Chennai.

According to AFP, the incident led to all 250 people – approximately half of the workforce – being hospitalised, complaining of giddiness and nausea. Although the majority were discharged after treatment, 28 of the hospitalised workers were kept in for observation.

Foxconn has temporarily closed the plant, with a spokesman commenting: “Following this incident, and as a precautionary measure, the company suspended operations at that production facility from July 26 to allow the facility to be checked and cleared by the relevant local authorities.”

The news is a blow for the Chinese manufacturer, whose reputation suffered following a spate of worker suicides earlier this year.
