Fears emerge over 55nm GPU shortage

Fears emerge over 55nm GPU shortage

A shortage of 55nm GPUs will endure until the first quarter of 2010, according to various reports surfacing on the internet.

Citing unnamed sources from within the Asian channel, Chinese trade paper Commercial Times claims that the 55nm shortage will come as both AMD and Nvidia shift their focus to new technologies.

Both companies are embarking on rolling out the next generation of 40nm DirectX GPUs, said the report, and thus will not look to accelerate their 55nm GPU supplies.

The companies want to avoid any future surplus inventory, added the report.

Neither AMD or Nvidia have made an official statement in regards to the matter. PCR has contacted the groups for comment.
