More needs to be done to highlight the issue of fake anti-virus packages, the head of a trade body has said.
Matthew Woolley, chairman of ITACS, wrote in a blog for PCR that demand for repairs has risen in recent months, due to the prevalence of counterfeit security software.
“I am sure that while this is good for us, it is not good for the consumer,” he wrote. “It’s a game of cat and mouse. The bad guys seem to be better than the good guys and might be making more money – I understand that millions are being made every month on both sides of the business.”
Woolley urged independent retailers to band together and tackle the issue. “We are trying hard to get the message out that you can get good advice and service from your local independent retailer,” he said.
