Social networking behemoth Facebook said that the firm has tracked down those responsible the deluge of pornography posted over the last week, vowing to "ensure appropriate consequences."
Facebook had earlier said that the posts were the result of a browser vulnerability which tricked users into executing malicious javascript which shared the offensive content. The firm said they had built systems to "quickly shut down the malicious Pages and accounts that attempt to exploit it."
Reports emerged that those who were sharing the images couldn't see them in their own feeds, but their friends could.
The content was said to include explicit hardcore porn, extreme violence and a photograph of an abused dog. Sophos security consultant Graham Cluley said: "Facebook needs to get this under control," or some users might be forced to quit the social networking site.
