Facebook has announced that it intends to give third parties access to its users personal information, including telephone numbers and home addresses.
According to the WSJ, the social networking platform wrote to Senators Edward Markey and Joe Barton in response to a request for further information regarding the plans, and repeated its pledge to allow users to create their own privacy settings.
“We have not yet decided when or in what manner we will redeploy the permission for mobile numbers and addresses," stated the letter.
"We are evaluating whether and how we can increase the visibility of applications' request for permission to access user contact information. We are also considering whether additional user education would be helpful.”
Senator Markey has since stated that he will continue to monitor the situation to ensure that sensitive information’s – especially regarding children and young people – will remain protected.
