EU green lights Packard Bell purchase

EU green lights Packard Bell purchase The European Competition Commission has given Acer the go ahead to buy rival Packard Bell after it found no reason to block the move.

Speaking about the decision, the European Commission said in a statement: " The market would remain competitive post-merger in all segments of the PC sector with established alternative suppliers such as Hewlett-Packard, Dell, Fujitsu-Siemens, Toshiba, Sony and Lenovo."

The deal confirms Acer's position as the world's third largest vendor of PCs, following its purchase of US rival Gateway last year.
