Smartphone shipments have shot up by 28 per cent in EMEA this year breaking the ten million barrier, according to Canalys.The market has undergone strong growth according to the figures, with Nokia continuing to dominate the sector, accounting for just under 80 per cent of all smartphone sales.
RIM, the company behind the Blackberry, managed to just hold off HTC, with less than 20,000 handsets between them, while Motorla and Samsung made up fourth and fifth place respectively.
Interestingly, despite problems with its handset division, Motorola saw handset sales grow 221.8 per cent, outpaced only by Samsung, which saw growth of 232 per cent.
Other manufacturers, including Apple, made up eight per cent of the market.
However, despite continued growth, sales dropped from 44 per cent during Q1, boosted in part by Apple's price cut on the 2G iPhone.
