Virgin Media has signed up EE and Vodafone as partners for its London Underground Wi-Fi initiative.
Since the summer, Virgin Media has been offering free Wi-Fi at a number of London Underground stations.
Wi-Fi on the tube is currently free, and Virgin recently announced that it will remain so until the end of 2012, but in the New Year only those signed up to Virgin could continue using the free service.
This new partnership now means that those on EE or Vodafone will also be able to use the service for free. Those not subscribed to these networks will have the option to pay for daily, weekly and monthly passes.
Jon James, executive director of broadband at Virgin Media, said: "Wi-fi on London Underground has been an incredible success with over 700,000 people already online and a remarkable million sessions every day.
"We’re rolling out the service to reach even more stations throughout London, from Camden Town to Clapham Common and, thanks to our partnership with EE and Vodafone, the majority of tube users can stay connected for no extra cost."
Gareth Powell, Director of Strategy and Service Development for London Underground, said: "Wi-fi is a great way to keep our customers up-to-date with live travel information and other news and entertainment. We are delighted that Virgin Media is giving the majority of Londoners the chance to continue to enjoy wi-fi at no extra cost next year and beyond."
