EchoStar Europe has launched the HDS-600RS HD digital video recorder with Freesat+ and SlingLoad compatibility to enable TV to be played on popular smartphones and tablets.
The large metallic HDS-600RS is fitted with twin DVB-S2 statellite runers and a 500GB hard drive and video-on-demand internet functionality provides access to providers such as the BBC iPlayer.
However it's the SlingLoaded feature which sets the HDS-600RS apart from the usual PVR set top box. The feature streams pre-recorded or live TV from the HDS-600RS to internet connected devices via Wi-Fi or broadband.
SlingPlayer applications are available on iPhone, iPad, Android smartphones and desktop Macs and PC.
In a hands-on test of the EchoStar SlingLoaded HDS-600RS, Pocket-lint said said EchoStar had "missed a trick" with the limitation that transmitting a TV signal to a mobile device is limited to the channel being watched on the box, despite the lack of twin tuners.
The EchoStar HDS-600RS is available for preorder from Amazon priced at £349.99 with a sheduled release date of the 1st of April.
