eBay pulls Google ads

eBay pulls Google ads The forever tense relationship between internet search giant Google and online auction colossus eBay has reached a new level with the sales site withdrawing its entire marketing spend from the search engine.

The Inquirer reports that eBay’s Google spend is estimated to be in the region of $100 million a year, with some observers speculating that this amounts to little more than a incentive for Google to stay out of the online shopping sector.

However, Google’s introduction of its online payment service Checkout last year strained the pair’s relationship, with eBay refusing to accept Checkout payments via its site.

Google had intended to push its payment service at eBay’s upcoming convention, but following talks between the two, Google has withdrawn from the event and eBay has severed its Google advertising.
