Dixons Retail's total group and like-for like sales were up three per cent for the 12 weeks ending July 24th.
The retail giant, still technically known as DSGI, claimed its UK operation gained market share thanks to the World Cup and the iPad.
Total internet sales were up 12 per cent, apparently driven by 'multichannel and Reserve and Collect'
The partnership with Phones4U, previously discussed with PCR here, is also taking shape, with the group announcing that 50 mobile store-in-stores to be open in time for Christmas.
“This is an encouraging start to the year, especially given the challenging market conditions. Our UK businesses performed particularly well, most notably with customers responding to our strong World Cup promotion and the excellent product ranges on offer," said John Browett, Group Chief Executive, commented. " The store transformation programme is making rapid progress and continues to improve the shopping trip for customers. Our international businesses have also performed well against competitors in varied market conditions.
"We remain cautious about the economic outlook but we will continue to deliver on our Renewal and Transformation plan to make the business Better, Easier and Cheaper to run and deliver an unbeatable combination of Value, Choice and Service for customers.”
Separately the firm also announced today that PC World will now be rolling out its new launch of its new iPad Media Streaming service. Designed in collaboration with Livedrive, it allows iPad owners to store 100GB of media and data online, which can then be accessed and played through live streaming via a 3G or Wi-fi network, for £39.99 per year.
