Desktop PCs regained their position as the dominant form factor for business users in February after 12 months of solid growth according to the latest figures from GfK.B2B sales of laptops managed to hit 31 per cent year-on-year, however, this was out paced by growth in desktop sales, which managed to reach 56 per cent on the same time last year.
Total sales within the business channel in 2008 so far are up 33 per cent on the same time last year, with much of the growth being driven by IT mail order specialists and resellers.
Much of the growth has been put down to falls in the cost of the average desktop unit with the price disparity between mobile and deskbound PCs now an average of £275.
The retail channel, however, did not fair as well with growth slowing to 61 per cent, down from the massive 81 per cent growth experienced at the same time in 2007.
Desktops also continued to experience a decline in demand with laptops continuing to increase their market share, reaching 86 per cent over desktops' 16 per cent.
