PC builder Dell said that it is to build ten data centers to host enterprise cloud services at a cost of $1 billion over the next year.
The massive investment in infrastructure will enable the firm to deliver leading solutions, services and cloud-based delivery options to help customers realise "compute and information delivery advancements," Dell said in a release.
"Technology advances, delivery methods and the move to disruptive IT models like cloud are changing the fundamental way businesses operate," said Dell services boss Steve Schuckenbrock.
"With this transformational shift, businesses are gaining benefits in terms of speed to market and organizational and compute flexibility."
Schuckenbrock said the firm is looking to make the power of the cloud available to more organisations and users.
The firm's cloud plans are aimed at providing affordable solutions for data center virtualisation, data management and even desktop virtualisation on cloud hardware.
