Zing systems acquisition suggests handheld device push from Dell

Dell delving into smart-phone market?

Zing Systems, a software company based on audio synching and streaming products for mobile devices, has been acquired by Dell. This will no doubt lead to questions about Dell’s intentions in the mobile devices market and in particular, the smart-phone market.

Vendors such as Sandisk and Sirius currently use Zing software in their products. Dell is currently keeping its plans a secret, stating only that the software would be used for "entertainment purposes."

The purchase suggests that Dell wants to play catch up with HP, who recently overtook it in the home PC market. It can now be reasonably speculated that Dell entertainment/home PC’s will all carry some Zing software and will become more compatible with mobile media.
