Dell's entry into the retail channel will put HP's current lead under severe pressure according to a research note by Deutsche Bank Equity Research, yesterday. It noted that for the past four to six quarters, HP has benefited from international growth in the consumer PC market thanks to better retail distribution, solid product lines and Dell's exit from the low end of the market.
The report said that because both of the vendor's products are comparatively priced at retail, other factors should help to push Dell ahead of HP, such as design and the brand.
The news comes as Dell insiders have told reporters that its sales departments are being flooded by enquiries by resellers, desperate to stock the brand in their stores.
