US vendor teams up with Amazon and Google

Dell aims to rival iTunes

Dell is to launch a rival to the iPad’s business model in a bid to create a competing media pipeline, as part of a coalition with Amazon and Google.

According to Wired, leaked slides from a Dell presentation imply that the vendor is planning to give users of its Streak tablet a direct link to Amazon’s video streams, Kindle reader apps and MP3 sales.

In format this is a reflection of the iPad, which has a primary marketing function of bringing a tethered iTunes portal directly to the user.

The leaked slides indicate that the Dell Streak will have Wireless 3G as standard, without any monthly fees and will be powered by Google Android.
