Software house CyberLink has created a mobile version of its popular PowerDirector program that’s specifically aimed at Windows 8 devices.
PowerDirector 11 is a full video-editing suite, while the new PowerDirector Mobile is a ‘companion app’.
You can buy PowerDirector Mobile as a standalone product (around $14.99) on the Windows Store, or activate it for free if you have the desktop version. CyberLink says the goal of the mobile edition is to ‘facilitate on-the-spot video editing and distribution for those who want to capture and share content wherever they are’.
The mobile version enables users to edit video on a tablet, and then easily transfer the project to a desktop for further editing in the full version.
As the tablet market continues to grow, the likelihood is that more software publishers will be releasing decent, functional apps for mobile devices. It’s a smart way to keep up brand awareness as the market shifts from boxes to downloads, and from desktops to a number of devices.
“While new hybrid hardware designs open up exciting usage possibilities for traditional notebook users, there is a distinct lack of powerful video creation software that works as well in a portable setting as it does in a desktop environment,” said CyberLink CEO Alice H Chang.
