Performance computing specialist Corsair has released a new range of SSD drives dubbed the Accelerator range, aimed at the caching data for a solid state performance boost.
The Accelerator range are relatively inexpensive drives of small capacities, designed to boost systems with existing large capacity mechanical hard drives. Armed with a 3Gb/s SATA 3 interface, the drives all deliver around 260-280MB/s sequential read/write performance.
The drives are based on SandForce 2141 and 2181 controllers and come in 32, 48 and 64GB capacities. The largest size also happens to be the largest capacity SSD that works with Intel’s Rapid Storage Technology caching system.
That said, users need not use the limited number of high-end motherboards that presently support Intel’s RST since Corsair also bundle a caching software solution from Nvelo which will work on just about any new Windows system.
The company said that the software "automatically learns which files and programs you access the most and optimizes system performance by caching these to the Accelerator SSD".
There aren’t any European pricing details so far but the drives are priced in the US market at $65, $84 and $99 for the 32, 48 and 64GB varieties respectively.
