Manufacturers have moved to hoard supplies of critical components for smartphones and tablet PCs ahead of supply chain shortages according to a DigiTimes report.
Acer, Asus, Motorola, Quanta, Compal, HTC and Apple were among the firms which had moved to act "aggressively" to secure supplies of critical components such as glass panels and PCBs according to supply chain sources quoted by the industry pundit.
The Japanese earthquake and ongoing power brownouts had created "strong pressure on the global IT supply chain."
However labor and materials shortages at Foxconn factories in China were also likely to have an impact on the shipments of the iPad 2 and iPhone 4, the DigiTimes also reported.
The iPad 2 is already in considerable supply contraint and Foxconn had declined to comment on whether the rumoured labor and component shortages in China would cause additional delays to Apple shipments.
