Joint coverage has been switched on between Orange and T-Mobile following the two mobile telcos merging to form "Everything Everywhere".
Everything Everywhere continues to operate the Orange and T-Mobile brands but in early September announced a joint network sharing arrangement. The network is now live which should mean better coverage for Orange and T-Mobile customers which now gain access to the combined networks.
While the boost in coverage is a boon for the firms' customers, last week the Telegraph reported that following an 18.5 per cent drop in earnings, Everything Everywhere planned to axe 1,200 jobs as part of a cost saving drive to achieve savings of £3.5bn.
The combined network does not automatically become operational for Orange and T-Mobile subscribers but rather users will need to opt in. No additional charges or roaming fees are applicable in signing up so it's a case of something for nothing.
