Cisco has said that it will launch a major consumer push in 2009 as part of a wide shift in resources. The strategy is likely to see significant investment in the vendor's consumer brands, Linksys and Scientific Atlanta. Entertainment is expected to be at the centre of the firm's push, with video services spearheading it.
"We think the time has come for Cisco to make a huge play in the home," chief executive John Chambers (pictured) told attendees at its C-Scape industry analyst conference yesterday.
He added that the firm would be freeing up resources from other business areas and moving them into its consumer business, with entertainment provision and rich content delivery expected to play a large role.
