HP has updated its laptop range with two new touch-enabled devices.
The new products, announced this week at CES, are the TouchSmart TM2 – a convertible notebook – and the Mini 5102 – HP’s first touchscreen netbook.
The TM2 updates HP’s previous model, the TX2, and can be used as a traditional notebook, with a keyboard and touch-enabled display for input. When converted into a slate the device can be used as a sketchpad with a digital pen, which transfers handwriting to the pad in digital ink. The display also supports multitouch gestures such as zoom, scroll and rotate by allowing more than one finger to be used simultaneously for input.
The device comes in an aluminium design, with Intel Core 2 Duo and a fingerprint reader. It is scheduled to arrive in the US on 17 January at a starting price of $949.
HP’s Mini 5102 is the latest addition to the Mini range of netbooks. Designed for students and mobile professionals, it features an all-metal case in black, red or blue with a range of features including face recognition for easy log-on to password-protected applications.
The touchscreen, like that of the TM2, accepts multitouch input. A non-touch version of the device is also available. It will ship in the US later this month from $399.
