Google has revealed its Nexus One smart phone during the preliminary press briefings for this year’s CES event.
The device operates on the Android mobile operating system, and its processing is driven by the Qualcomm Snapdragon chipset – making it as powerful as some last generation laptops.
Somewhat predictably, the Nexus One is already being dubbed ‘the iPhone killer’, chiefly due to its processor speed of 1GHz and its five megapixel integrated camera.
“The Nexus One belongs in the emerging class of devices which we call ‘superphones,’ with the 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon chipset making it as powerful as your laptop computer of three to four years ago,” commented Google’s vice president of engineering Andy Rubin.
“It's our way to raise the bar on what's possible when it comes to creating the best mobile experience for consumers. We look forward to working with handset manufacturers and operators to bring more phones to market through this channel worldwide.”
