JVC's sales director has said that he expects camcorder sales to pass the 16 million mark during 2008, with sales being driven largely by HDD models.Nobuo Hori told Digitimes that he expected HDD models to account for 6.1 million during this year, up from 5.1 million models during 2007. He added that he expects sales to break the seven million mark next year.
DV models are expected to continue dominating the majority of sales, however, Hori said that he expects sales to continue declining as newer formats begin to come into their own against the 12 year-old format.
Hori warned though that he expects sales of DVD-based models to stall, as consumers are attracted to the HDD models.
