Computer 2000 has made a bid for mobile phone distributor Unique Distribution, with many others thought to be considering placing bids. The move by C2000 will be its first entry into mobile distribution placing the heavyweight IT distie up against similar firms in the phone market including 20:20 and Hugh Simmons Communications.
Trade magazine Mobile was told by the accountant appointed by HM Revenue and Customs to oversee the sale of Unique that Computer 2000 had indeed made a bid for 'elements' of the firm.
Unique's commercial director David Hinc also confirmed the bid, adding that the IT broadliner had bid for the firm's intellectual rights, including its brand name, website and telephone lines.
"The interest shown in Unique has been driven by IT companies," he added.
C2000's bid follows the purchase of smartphone distributor Portix from eXpansys by Micro–P last week.
