The TV Licensing authority has warned businesses that they will be held responsible if employees stream television to their work computers with out the company holding a TV license.
According to ERT Online, businesses could face fines of up to £1,000 from the actions of workshy employees.
The law only covers live streaming and not sites like the BBC’s iPlayer service. Mobiles and laptops that are battery powered also avoid the licensing authority’s gaze, however once the equipment is plugged in, it becomes the employers responsibility.
“People can now watch on a PC or laptop, or even on some mobile phones and PDAs and it's the responsibility of the business to make sure staff are obeying the law,” said a TV Licensing spokesman.
