Security software saw strong growth during 2008, with sales increasing by 18.6 per cent according to Gartner.

"In 2008, the security market did not show any noticeable impact from the economic downturn," explained principal research analyst at Gartner. "A double-digit growth in a challenging economic climate shows that security remains a key priority for CIOs and IT security leaders.
Symantec managed to retain its dominance of the market with 22 per cent share, though that was down two per cent on 2007. McAfee and Trend Micro also remained at second and third respectively.
