Fibre-to-the-home service offers 100Mbs downstream and 15Mbps upstream for a lucky few.
The new BT Infinity Option 3 consists of fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) package which will, surprise surprise, be available on a limited number of exchanges. Options 1 and 2 offer speeds of up to 40Mbps.
"BT Infinity Option 3 matches the top speed currently available in the UK and beats the upload speed offered by Virgin Media’s best offering," said BT consumer manager John Petter.
The telco is aiming to cover two-thirds of UK homes and premises with fibre-based broadband by the end of 2014 but that's not going to be the FTTH Option 3.
The areas that will have the 100Mbbps broadband in 'some streets' are: Ashford, Bradwell Abbey, Chester South, Exeter, Forest Hill, Highams Park, Ilford Central,
Leytonstone, St Austell and York.
