A survey of UK broadband users has found that 60 per cent of respondents would be jealous if their neighbour had a faster internet connection than them.
The research by Top 10 Broadband also found that 40 per cent of those surveyed would not move to a house that suffered from poor internet service. In fact, bad speed and patchy service had more influence on house buying than proximity to a local pub.
The study has come out as Top 10 releases its StreetStats technology, which allows users to gauge their neighbours broadband providers and internet speeds, which means that ‘broadband envy’ may soon be a common complaint in the UK.
“Until now broadband speed tests have only let you check your own speed,” commented Top 10 Broadband director Alex Buttle. “This is the first time everyone will be able to see what speeds their neighbours are getting and which broadband providers they are signed up to.
“As our broadband StreetStats show, despite all the competition between the major UK broadband providers there’s still huge variation in the speeds their customers receive – even on the same street. Our new speed test makes the broadband landscape more transparent than ever.”
