A budget 7-inch Android tablet known as the Andy Pad is set to go on sale in early September priced at just £129.
The budget Wi-Fi only Andy Pad is to be armed with a 1.2GHz ARM A8 processor, 512MB of RAM and Android 2.3 Gingerbread. The device is aimed at a younger audience and uses a resistive touch-screen rather than the more usual capacitive.
Little is known about the company behind the Andy Pad other than the domain appears to be registered by Norwich based Mattress retail chain Mattressman. The retailer has been announcing updates on the tablet via the @AndyPadUK twitter account.
Andy Pad has come to the attention of a number of Android enthusiast web sites where news that the inexpensive Andy Pad will be 'rootable' has gone down well.
In a recent email to Talk Android, 'AndyPadHQ' said that enthusiast interest was such that the firm would launch a so-called Andy Pad Pro featuring a capacitive touch screen and front and rear facing cameras.
