Brigantia’s founder, Iain Shaw has hailed the formation of the Technology Channel Association as a chance to create a UK umbrella trade body and has hinted that the buying group might be willing to work with the new organisation.
Speaking to PCR, Shaw stated: “I am not often surprised these days but I was by this announcement. I’m an outsider to this, but I’m very interested to see what will happen.”
Speaking of his desire to see a broad umbrella trade association, he added: “I have been saying for years that what we need is a genuine umbrella trade body for our industry – if the decks have been cleared and this is a genuine new start then it will have my support.
“We work in a melting pot sector with a multitude of different channels and although everyone has different needs, there’s no reason that people can’t work under one body, provided the democratic structure is done correctly. If the body is appropriately funded, it could have genuine reach and clout – something that is sorely needed at the moment.”
Shaw told PCR that his organisation was looking to commit to one of the larger trade bodies in the future but was keeping an open mind.
“If the structure is right and vested interests are now a foreign country then this could be great for our industry in these troubled times,” said Shaw. “I am ready to listen and then talk if others are. I am open minded and I would urge others to be as we learn more about what is planned.”
